Boater Education Course Offered

Boater Education Course Offered

A partnership between Sea Grant Texas, Calhoun County AgriLife, and Texas Parks and Wildlife is bringing a classroom and hands-on Boaters Education Course to Port Lavaca. This all day event will prepare new and seasoned boaters for time on the water. There will be many stations for participants to go through and learn about everything from the new kill switch laws to how to discharge a fire extinguisher. Participants will even be properly fitted for life jackets.

The Boater Education Course is required for anyone born on or after September 1, 1993, who operates any vessel over 15 horsepower, wind-blown vessel over 14 feet, and all personal watercraft. This is a great opportunity in a fun learning environment. It will be held on Saturday, March 7th, from 8:30 am – 4:00 at the Calhoun County Agriculture Building Auditorium in Port Lavaca.

Participants must register for the class at tx.ag/boatersafety. Lunch will be provided. For more information, you can contact Capt. R.J. Shelly at rj.shelly@tamu.edu
