One of our guiding principles is “Respect the Resource.” FlatsWorthy has developed relationships with some outstanding organizations and institutions. One of those is Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).
ANWR is doing proscribed burns this week, so the smoke may disrupt some anglers usual fishing. While it may seem counterintuitive, these burns are a great way to help the resource. In prairies, fire is used to remove unwanted brush species that crowd out the native grasslands. FlatsWorthy has seen first hand how invasive grasses can choke out healthy native grasses and negatively impact our coastal flats.
Where there is smoke, there is fire. This time that’s a good thing.
